The Inheritance Option allows users to control whether Project objects continue to inherit changes from the parent Project Template or are managed independently.
NOTE: Once inheritance is broken, it cannot be restored.
System Requirements
Requirement | Description |
Admin Access to the Project Template | Allows users to manage inheritance settings for Projects created from the Project Template. |
Inheritance Override | Inheritance Override must be enabled for the Project Template. |
How Do I Edit a Project using Inheritance Option?
Select the required Project.
Navigate to the Projects tab.
Depending on the current view, access the Project settings using one of the following methods:
In the Edit Project pop-up, navigate to the Inheritance Option tab.

Select whether the required Project objects should continue to inherit changes from the Project Template.
For more information on the available columns, check Understanding the Inheritance Option Table.

NOTE: If the Inherit Changes checkbox is selected and greyed out, the corresponding Project object is fixed by the parent Project Template. The inheritance setting can only be changed from the Project Template. Contact the organisation administrator to request a change.
TIP: To break inheritance for all Project objects, clear the Inherit Changes checkbox in the column header. All objects will stop inheriting updates from the Project Template.

Click Save.

Understanding the Inheritance Option Table
Column | Description |
Workspace Objects | Displays the Project objects inherited from the Project Template. TIP: For more information on each workspace object, check Relation between Project Objects. |
Inherit Changes | Indicates whether the Project object will continue to inherit configuration changes from the Project Template.
A selected checkbox indicates that inheritance is enabled. |
Breaking Inheritance
Inheritance can be overridden for supported Project objects when Inheritance Override is enabled for the parent Project Template.
Once inheritance is removed, future changes made to the Project Template will no longer apply to the affected Project object.
NOTE: Breaking inheritance affects only the selected Project. Other Projects created from the same Project Template will continue to inherit changes unless inheritance is also removed for those Projects.
TIP: If the same configuration is required across multiple Projects, update the Project Template instead of breaking inheritance for individual Projects. This helps maintain a consistent configuration across Projects created from the Template.
