What is Two-Way Automatic Synchronisation?
Two-Way Automatic Synchronisation automatically uploads and downloads changes between your local aDrive working folder and the Asite Cloud, keeping both locations up to date.
When enabled:
Changes made to files in your local working folder are uploaded automatically.
Changes made in the Asite web application are downloaded automatically.
Files stay up to date across both locations.
Synchronisation runs automatically whenever changes are detected.
Before you begin
Before using Two-Way Automatic Synchronisation, ensure that:
Your organisation has Two-Way Auto Sync enabled.
You are using aDrive Desktop Professional.
You have the required permissions to access the folders you want to synchronise.
Note: If the Enable 2-Way Sync option is unavailable, contact your Asite Administrator or Asite Support. |
To configure synchronised folders, see Configure Folder Synchronisation in aDrive Desktop.
Enable Two-Way Synchronisation
Open aDrive Desktop.
Select Enable 2-Way Sync.
Expand the required project.
Browse to the folder you want to synchronise.
Select one of the following options:
Sync File Structure Only (2-Way) – Synchronises the folder structure and metadata without downloading file content.
Sync File Content (2-Way) – Synchronises the folder structure, metadata and file content between your computer and the Asite Cloud.
Select Update.
How Two-Way Synchronisation works
Once a folder is configured for Two-Way Synchronisation:
New and updated files in your local working folder are uploaded automatically.
Changes made in the Asite web application are downloaded automatically.
New files uploaded to a synchronised folder are available in the Asite web application immediately when uploaded in Online mode.
Synchronisation continues in the background while aDrive Desktop is running.
Tip: A green tick on a file or folder indicates that it is fully synchronised with the Asite Cloud. |
Limitations
Be aware of the following limitations when using Two-Way Automatic Synchronisation:
Renaming a parent folder is not synchronised between aDrive Desktop and the Asite Cloud.
Renaming a child folder is synchronised.
Renaming a file locally is treated as a new file in the Asite Cloud.
Files configured for One-Way or Two-Way Synchronisation are not affected by the Delete Local Files After Upload setting and remain available locally.
Metadata can be viewed and edited locally only for folders configured for Two-Way Synchronisation.
Note: Files are synchronised only if you have the required Download permission (or higher) for the selected folder. |
Licensing
Two-Way Automatic Synchronisation is available with aDrive Desktop Professional.
The Professional licence includes an annual download allowance. Additional download charges may apply if the annual allowance is exceeded. The allowance resets when your subscription renews.
